Music

Music first gripped me as a very young child. There was lots of singing in the house courtesy of my parents. As well as being keen Gaelic choristers they were both very fine soloists and encouraged us to sing at the drop of a hat. However, I began to get seriously excited when my Dad formed a folk group which practised most weeks in our front room. This was the first time I was fully exposed to guitars, mandolins and harmony vocals and this sound still resonates with me today.

Fast forward thirty odd years, and this strange fascination has led me through a number of musical combinations and I am now a member of The Wild Sarachs, contributing guitar, bouzouki, the occasional shaky harmony vocal and a keen sense of the absurd. We are the torch-bearers for the ancient turbo-dreich and cr8tr bochd music, obscure enough even here in this part of Scotland, which was formerly its heartland. We recently recorded a mini-album, Campbeltown Loch Blues which is available to download here

I am also a member of Gun Ainm, an acoustic, celtic-style band. We haven't been so busy of late but we have a kind of pact that we won't ever split up and always look forward to our too infrequent meetings. Sometimes it's only once a year, but after a quick gallop through "The Lark" , everything clicks into gear and away we go! Find out more about us here

I also occasionally perform with my brother-in-law, Norman MacKinnon, who is a well known Gaelic singer. The members of Gun Ainm have featured individually and collectively on Norman's three albums to date. You can find out more and hear some samples here
